The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is a subset of the bigger Internet of Things (IoT). In 2020, over 50 billion devices, including phones and laptops are connected to the internet. These include the smart thermostat in your house and the neighbour’s new Tesla, but also the industrial machines that produce the products we use every day. The IIoT, which is also referred to as IoT in manufacturing, is part of the High Tech Software Cluster’s main focus, because it is an essential part of Industry 4.0. By connecting these machines to the internet, we open up our factories to all the promises of Smart Industry. It allows us to collect production data and analyse it, and then use the results to automatically or manually optimise production and logistics processes. On top of that, it opens up industry for new innovations that will lead to a really Smart Industry.
